Orientation is an opportunity for students to get to know UMA and to prepare for a successful college experience. At orientation, students can:
- learn about UMA's student resources, policies, and procedures
- meet other students, the faculty, and staff
- participate in information and skill building workshops
- ask questions and express concerns
Orientation is for ALL students new to UMA, whether they are: returning adults, transfer students, or recent high school graduates; attending on campus or attending at centers, sites, or via technology; and, in degree programs or just taking a class.
Orientations are offered at both of UMA's campuses (Augusta and Bangor), and at the University Colleges (Bath-Brunswick, East Millinocket, Ellsworth, Penquis, Rockland, Rumford-Mexico, Saco-Biddeford, and South Paris). Orientations are also available for those students who are taking any classes over interactive television or via the internet (asynchronous). In addition, specialized orientation programs for students in the architecture or nursing programs are offered. Students should contact the College of Arts and Humanities for information on the architecture orientation or the College of Math and Professional Studies for information on the nursing orientation.
An orientation information packet is mailed approximately three weeks before classes start to all students new to UMA. Students should contact their nearest campus or center for additional information.
