Dr. Jim Conneely’s (or Dr. C. as known by his students) is currently the President at the University of Maine at Augusta with campuses in Augusta, Bangor, and 8 regional centers through University College. In addition to this being his second Presidency, he has also served as an Associate Provost, Vice President, and Professor of Education in addition to several other positions in his 34 years in higher education. He has served at a full complement of institutional types as an administrator and faculty member including Notre Dame of Maryland University, Eastern Kentucky University, the University of Arkansas, Emory University, Villanova University, and the University of Northern Iowa.
His areas of expertise and interest center on strategic and financial planning, auxiliary operations and financial management, retention and student success, organizational and leadership effectiveness, and student development including generational issues.
Dr. Conneely has been active in Southern Association for College and Schools, National Association for Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) including chairing the James E. Scott National Academy for Leadership and Executive Effectiveness, the Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA), and other Professional associations. In addition to serving in leadership positons nationally and regionally, he has also consulted in Mexico, Germany, Canada, and China in relation to his areas of expertise.
Dr. Conneely’s is not only engaged professionally, but also has held leadership positions and consulted with non-profits including United Way, Lexington Catholic High School, and other community organizations. He was awarded the Regional Services Award by the United Way of the Bluegrass, recognized by the Commonwealth of Kentucky – House of Representatives, and awarded the John Koldus Award for Outstanding Service to NASPA – Region III and the H. Howard Davis, Jr. Award for Outstanding Contributions to SACSA. Dr. Conneely currently serves on the Augusta Board of Trade, the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the Mayor’s Committee on Community and Economic Development.
Dr. Conneely received his B.A. degree from Saint Bonaventure University, his M.S. in Education from Alfred University, and his Ph.D. from Georgia State University. Additionally, he received certificates from Harvard University’s Management Development Program, Institutional Educational Management, and New President’s programs; and a certificate from the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Education summer institute at Dartmouth University.
Dr. Conneely has a passion for his family (Becky, Jessica, and Caitlin), fitness, and aviation including holding a Private Pilot license.
