Dear UMA community and friends:
On June 29th, Chancellor Page announced my appointment as Interim President of UMA. I could not be more excited.
UMA, in my opinion, is one of the shining jewels of the University of Maine System. From my vantage point in the System office, I have long admired the dedication and support of UMA faculty and staff to its non-traditional student body and your pioneering leadership in distance and online education.
I have equally admired the UMA students themselves, who often deal with so much more than most college students, overcoming adversity and family responsibilities to make their way from admittance to graduation.
I’ll be on the Augusta campus beginning June 29th, and will be arranging visits to the Bangor campus and University College centers over the coming weeks. My first order of business will be to meet with UMA’s strong and established leadership team. I also look forward to meeting with those of you who are around over the summer months. I am eager to learn as much as I possibly can and understand UMA through your eyes and experience.
I am truly humbled to be assuming the UMA presidency with its rich tradition of excellence in leadership. And on a more personal level, I am delighted as a current and long-time Augusta resident to be working for my “home-town” university.
I look forward to talking with all of you.
Rebecca M. Wyke, Ed.D.
