UMA Libraries Mission Statement

The libraries of The University of Maine at Augusta support and enrich the education and research of UMA students, faculty, and staff by providing access to and instruction in the use of library resources. UMA's libraries in Augusta and Bangor support academic instruction at all levels and provide consultation in the use of information in today's knowledge-based society. UMA libraries also share information resources with users external to the UMA libraries.

The Bennett D. Katz Library at The University of Maine at Augusta was designed to serve as a centerpiece for learning support for UMA students. The original building was completed in 1974. A major addition in 1988 included new interactive television studios and the statewide ITV system control center, as well as a new wing of the library. The facility now also includes a state-of-the-art recording studio associated with UMA’s premier jazz and contemporary music program.
