Admission Criteria for B.Arch Program

What you need to apply

The following are admission criteria for application to UMA’s B.Arch program.  Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. 

Admission to UMA’s B.Arch program is competitive with an emphasis on your Design Document Submission. Class size is limited to 30 per year. For full consideration to the fall semester, interested students should submit ALL application materials by February 15st . Offers of admission will occur on a rolling admissions basis as long as space remains in the program. Rolling competitive applications for AY 2017-2018 admission are now being accepted.

True Freshman

  • UMA Application Form
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • Verbal SAT scores of 500 or higher, or:
    • ENG 005 Developmental Writing or UMA placement test
    • REA 008 Reading for Understanding or UMA placement test
  • Math SAT scores of 540 or higher, or:
    • MAT 111 Algebra II or UMA placement test
  • Two letters of recommendation (Find forms here)
  • Artistic Review Challenge or Portfolio Submission (Find guidelines and instructions here)
  • Optional Personal Interview (scheduled after all application materials have been received)

Note: SAT scores are not required for admission.

Transfer (from another institution)

  • UMA Application Form
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • Verbal SAT scores of 500 or higher, or:
    • ENG 005 Developmental Writing or UMA placement test
    • REA 008 Reading for Understanding or UMA placement test
  • Math SAT scores of 540 or higher, or:
    • MAT 111 Algebra II or UMA placement test
  • Minimum College Cumulative G.P.A.: 2.5
  • Official College transcripts
  • Two letters of recommendation (Find forms here)
  • Artistic Review Challenge or Portfolio Submission (Find guidelines and instructions here)
  • Optional Personal Interview (scheduled after all application materials have been received)

Note: SAT scores are not required for admission.

Current UMA student (Architecture or other degree program)

  • Change of Program Form (Find form here)
    • Note: this form can be delivered directly to the Advising Office, Randall Student Center, 2nd Floor
  • Minimum Cumulative G.P.A.: 2.5
  • Two letters of recommendation (Find forms here)
  • Artistic Review Challenge or Portfolio Submission (Find guidelines and instructions here)
  • Optional Personal Interview (scheduled after all application materials have been received)

UMA/ARC Alumni  (graduate)

  • UMA Re-admission Application (Find form here)
  • Minimum Cumulative G.P.A.: 2.5
  • Two letters of recommendation (Find forms here)
  • Artistic Review Challenge or Portfolio Submission (Find guidelines and instructions here)
  • Optional Personal Interview (scheduled after all application materials have been received)
  • Preferred: Work experience with an architect or in a related field (minimum 1 year)
