Maine’s Initial Teacher Standards
The state of Maine requires teacher candidates to demonstrate knowledge of these standards. Maine has adopted the InTASC standards and the NETS-T standards as Maine’s Common CoreTeacher Standards. At UMA, a teaching portfolio is the means for teacher candidates to show their understanding of and growth towards these standards.

Maine is one of many states who have adopted the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics. This page includes the standards document as well as supporting documents and resources to assist teachers in applying the standards to their teaching.
Prior to adopting the CCSS, teachers in Maine followed the Maine Learning Results standards for all subjects. Standards for all other disciplines are still followed through the MLR.
Maine is one of 26 states that are working to develop these new science standards.
