UMA’s annual student English Conference and Plunkett Poetry Festival — free!

On Friday, April 21, UMA will be hosting its annual undergraduate English Conference, this year combined with our annual Plunkett Poetry Festival, on the Augusta campus.

naomi-shihab-nyePlease consider attending one of the four student panels in the Klahr Center, running from 10-4pm. Or just come for lunch and hear Maine Poet Laureate Stu Kestenbaum at 1pm in the Klahr Center.

At 4:15, we will decamp for the first floor of Randall, where this semester’s graphic storytelling students will be on hand to talk about their work displayed there.

At 5:00pm, a group of Maine poets will lead a discussion on this year’s academic theme, climate change, in the Fireplace Lounge, followed by a community dinner of Indian food.

The evening program begins at 7:30 in Jewett Auditorium, where the incomparable poet Naomi Shihab Nye will read, answer questions, and sign books. A reception follows in the gallery.

Please do join us for any or all of these events. All of them are free and open to the public.
