 Arline Rebecca Andrews Lovejoy

  • Business and Professional Women Active Member since 1941.
  • President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Winthrop BPW.
  • President of the Maine Federation (BPW/Maine), 1976-1977.
  • President of New England BPW Past State Presidents, 1981-1982.
  • Helped with Maine Women’s Hall of Fame, served with other BPW/Maine PSP on Silver Tea Committee, preparing and serving punch from March 1990 to 2004.
  • Chair of BPW/Maine Futurama Scholarship Committee for twenty years beginning early 1980’s; the Arline Andrews Lovejoy Scholarship was established in her memory.
  • Graduated from Proctor High School, Andover NH in 1932 and from Aurora College, Aurora, IL in 1941. Took many courses from University on Maine System. Worked at Andrews Market in Winthrop from 1932 to 1968.
  • Taught at Monmouth Academy from 1968 to 1981. Supportive of local Winthrop and Maranacook sporting teams. Attended every basketball tournament game for years.
  • Married on July 18,1947 to Harold Augustus Lovejoy, who predeceased her in 1989.
  • Attended Winthrop and Wayne Methodist churches. Founding member of Winthrop CODA Chorus in 1966. Member of CODA Chorus for 38 years. Sang in church choirs for 50 years. Taught Sunday School at Winthrop Methodist Church from 1932 to 1952.
  • President of the Kennebec Retired Teachers Association for two years; member since 1981. Member of Reading Club of Wayne. Treasurer of the Thirty Mile Snowmobile Club for many years.
  • Founding member of Winthrop Area Development Association. Member of Winthrop Town Budget Committee and held secretary and treasurer positions. Chair of Winthrop Bicentennial Celebration in 1971. Helped produce History of Winthrop text.
