The Project

The Project will focus upon a three year wolf study now under way in Poland that is being supervised by Dr. Roman Gula of the Carpathian Branch of the International Center of Ecology - Polish Academy of Science (ICE PAS).

The current research with which we will interact via writings, photographs, audio and video is involved with wolf population monitoring and management.

The scientific goal of this project is to contribute to the overall understanding of wolf population size, wolf-prey relationship and wolf depredation to the livestock. This understanding will provide greater insight into the wolf's contribution to biodiversity.

The information gathered will supplement the collection of existing studies which will be used to establish a Model Wolf Management Policy in Poland. This wolf study is being funded by Polish State Science Committe and ICE PAS.

The project is made possible by generous support of the University of Maine at Augusta, Oxford HIlls Comprehensive High School, and the World Gym and Racquet Club of Augusta, Maine.

Beginning July 15, 2001 the two American members of the Research Team will be gathering Video for possible upload to this site if the technology permits. You are encouraged to log on and view the Video, which may be uploaded on a daily basis from July 15 to July 25. Photographs will be available on the Image Gallery page. A time for Live Chat will also be designated. Return to the HomePage to navigate through more information on The People of Poland, The Land, The Wolf and a daily log of our Progress.
