Maine's Initial Teacher Standards

The state of Maine requires teacher candidates to demonstrate knowledge of these standards.  Maine recently adopted the InTASC standards and the NETS-T standards as Maine's Teacher Standards. At UMA, a teaching portfolio is the means for teacher candidates to show their understanding of and growth towards these standards.

Maine Department of Education

This is a comprehensive website that encompasses Maine's Education Plan and the various initiatives that comprise that plan.

Common Core State Standards

Maine is one of 46 states who have adopted the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics. This page includes the standards document as well as supporting documents and resources to assist teachers in applying the standards to their teaching.

Maine Learning Results: Parameters for Essential Instruction

Prior to adopting the CCSS, teachers in Maine followed the Maine Learning Results standards for all subjects. Standards for all other disciplines are still followed through the MLR.

Next Generation Science Standards

Maine is one of 26 states who are working to develop these new science standards.

One of the most important elements of teaching is collaboration. By sharing our work with one another, we strengthen and broaden each other's knowledge and expertise.
