The Associate of Science in Criminal Justice Program is designed to prepare students for entry into a career in criminal justice or for transfer to a baccalaureate program. Through a carefully structured core curriculum, the program provides both a broad educational experience and a practical introduction to the operations and functions of modern justice agencies, their rationale and strategies for effective change.
Students choose electives each semester to focus their studies toward a particular field of justice. This process allows concentrated study relating to personal career goals in such fields as police work, security, corrections or juvenile justice. Actual on-the-job training may also be arranged for further career preparation through a field experience in the major subject area, making a more concrete connection between theory and practice.
Graduates of the Criminal Justice program may seek employment with municipal, state or federal law enforcement agencies, juvenile or adult correctional institutions, probation and parole agencies, private industrial and commercial security firms, insurance investigation offices and border patrol or state game warden agencies. Graduates may also transfer into a Bachelor of Science Degree.
Admission is open to anyone who has earned a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
