University of Maine at Augusta College of Arts and Humanities JBA in Art Portfolio Review Information for Students (dates will be posted as they become available) Portfolios should be submitted when a student has earned between 48 and 56 credit hours. Transfer students should submit a portfolio after their 1st semester at UMA. Students must pass their portfolio review prior to taking any 400 level art courses. In preparing for your art presentation, you must consider both the protection and appearance of the work. Portfolios must be labeled with your name, address, and telephone number clearly printed on them. Some portfolios may need to travel to Farmington so that a joint UMA and UMF art faculty committee may review it; therefore, it must be suitable for transport and easily unpacked and re-packed. We assume no responsibility for damage or loss and require that no glass, 3-D work, or item larger than 30”x40” be submitted. (3-D or large 2-D works may be represented by slides and/or photographs.) Portfolios for review are brought to the college office, Jewett Hall Room 152, during the week preceding a posted portfolio review date and must be picked up the week following the review.
The Portfolio Needs to Consist of: 10 original artworks in a portfolio not exceeding 30”x40” including: A. 5 drawings (18”x24” monochromatic drawings are preferred) including at least one self-portrait and/or figurative drawing from life; B. 5 works of the applicant’s choice that may include, but is not limited to, such media as drawing, printmaking, and/or painting; C. 1 or more of these pieces which demonstrate an understanding in the use of color
We urge you to discuss your portfolio with your advisor or another member of the art faculty prior to submitting it. |
