
Staff Associate for the Fitness Center and Athletics/Women's Basketball Coach
This full-time, fiscal year position is available immediately. The Staff Associate will supervise the Fitness Center on the Augusta campus, promoting health and fitness programming for University staff and students, and coach the Women's Basketball team.
Qualifications: Requirements: A Baccalaureate degree with two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in one or more of the following: health and fitness programs, certification as an aerobics instructor or personal trainer, fitness facility management, recreational sports, or athletics' administration, preferably in a higher education setting; strong organizational and management skills; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills; initiative; computer literacy; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; availability to work evening and weekend hours; ability to recruit student athletes; successful basketball coaching experience; valid state of Maine driver's license.

Position Description

- Supervises stud ent employees and instructors/trainers; assists the Director of
Student Life with overseeing coaches and' other athletics personnel - Coordinates primarily with other Student Life staff, Student Services staff,
Enrollment Services staff, Finance staff, students, faculty and other
administrative staff - Primary Responsibilities of Position
This position promotes a sense of community and provides opportunities for student growth and 'development that are complementary to the university's academic mission. This position provides direct supervision of the Augusta Fitness Center, leadership to the health and fitness program, Women's basketball coach, assistance to the athletic program, and special summer programs to benefit campus and community members.
Major Duties of the Position - Oversee the Augusta campus Fitness Center and associated staff, activities, and equipment
- Recommends to the Director of Student Life policies and procedures for use of the facility
- Serves as liaison to Administrative Services regarding the
maintenance, safety and security of the Fitness Center - Serves as the principal staff for the Fitness Center
- Provides individual and group orientations to the facility and
equipment; performs fitness assessments and consults with users
regarding appropriate exercise, conditioning and fitness approaches - Hires, trains, schedules and supervises student staffing for the Fitness
Center - Practices e ffective risk management in delivery of services and programming
- Collaborates with UMA colleagues, as appropriate, to deliver complementary health and wellness programming
- Maintains accurate records for facility use

- Maintain and report statistics
- Provides opportunities for participation in intramural sports and other recreational activities
- Assists UMA's Athletic Director with day-to-day operations of the athletic program
- Assists with game preparation and management
- Assists with maintaining inventories of athletic equipment
- Upon request, may represent the Athletic Director and/or serve as liaison to athletic coaches
- Coordinates with Administrative Services to ensure appropriate
maintenance, safety and use of the Outdoor Leisure Center - Delivers summer programs that utilize campus resources to serve both
campus and community constituencies- Delivers fee-based summer "camps" and clinics for students, community youth and/or adults
- Assists with coordination of community summer athletic leagues, e.g., softball and basketball
- Implements strategies to maximize community access to Outdoor Leisure Center and increase the visibility of other UMA facilities
- Implements promotional strategies to enhance participation in all
related activities. - Participates in program assessment projects and prepares reports, as requested, on all aspects of responsibilities
- Assists with supervision of other student activities, upon request
- Performs other reasonably related duties, as assigned
- Budget Responsibilities
- Manages all assigne d budgets within approved allocations and consistent with UMA/UMS policy; budget responsibilities include, but may not be limited to: Augusta Fitness Center; assist with management of the athletics budgets.

- Attends staff, Team and other appropriate meetings; participates in appropriate UMA committees and governance units
