Bachelor of Science in Information and Library Services

OBJECTIVES:

The bachelor of science degree prepares students to engage in more technical aspects of librarianship as a paraprofessional by developing specialized skills used in library and information centers.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • high school graduation
  • satisfactory SAT scores - applicants are never denied admission based solely on the basis of test scores
  • acceptable class standing in high school with a preferable college preparatory program
  • demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing and mathematics

DEGREE:

Upon successful completion of the program (120 credit hours at a minimum GPA of 2.00 and a minimum grade of "C" in all Information and Library Services courses), the student will be awarded a bachelor of science in Information and Library Services degree.

DEGREE DELIVERY:

The program's major courses (ILS) are offered asynchronously (video, Internet, and E-mail based) and are available throughout the world. All non-ILS courses for this degree may, with prior approval of the program coordinator, be taken at any regionally accredited college as long as they provide the program requirements.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

  1. ENGLISH & COMMUNICATIONS: 9 credit hours from ENG101, 102W and one of the following COM101, 102, or 104
  2. FINE ARTS: 3 credit hours from ARH105, 106; ART211; DRA101, 265, 280; INT129; MUS123, 160, 180, 333, 334
  3. HUMANITIES: 12 credit hours (6 must be upper level) from ART211; any ARH; any drama history, theory, or appreciation (DRA) course (non-performance); any literature course; any HTY; any humanities; any music history, theory, or appreciation course (non-performance); any PHI; POS390; WST101W
  4. MATHEMATICS: 3 credit hours from MAT100 or higher-level mathematics
  5. NATURAL SCIENCE: 4 credit hours from any laboratory science course
  6. SOCIAL SCIENCE: 6 credit hours from PSY100 and 308 or SOC101 and 360
  7. BUSINESS: BUA223
  8. EDUCATION: any education course
  9. COMPUTER SCIENCE: 6 credit hours from CIS100 and 101
  10. Information and Library Services: 44 credit hours from ILS100, 101, 150, 175, 225, 250, 325, 350, 365, 442, 499; 6 credit hours from ILS201, 202, 203, 204, 306; 3 credit hours from ILS312, 385, 441
  11. FREE ELECTIVES: 27 credit hours
