GENERAL INFORMATION:

The College of Mathematics & Professional Studies offers a wide variety of degree programs. Our programs of study provide a solid educational background that prepares students for entry-level positions in the job market and professional careers in business, public administration, computer information systems, and allied health.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Information on entrance requirements is found within the specific degree program descriptions.

ACADEMIC ADVISING:

Upon entering a degree program, students are matched with a faculty member who will act as their academic advisor during their course of study. Students are encouraged to meet with their advisor regularly. Reasonable and responsible alternatives are available, expecially for students studying at a distance and during the summer months. Students enrolled in the following degree programs are required to have the advisor's signature prior to course registration: medical laboratory technology, nursing, health information management, dental hygiene, and veterinary technology.

DECLARING THE MAJOR:

The baccalaureate in business degree program offers options in majors and concentrations. Students must declare the major at the time of admission.

CHANGING COLLEGES:

A student may request a "change of program" within the college, to another college, or from an associate to a baccalaureate degree. The student should contact the college of his or her current area of study for guidance.

TRANSFERS:

Transfer credit from another accredited institution for any of the programs within the College of Mathematics & Professional Studies is awarded in accordance with admission guidelines. In general, all of the College's associate degrees are designed to permit ease of internal and external transfer to appropriate baccalaureate programs. Information on articulation agreements with other institutions can be obtained through the College.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

In order to graduate from the College, students must be in good academic standing, i.e., not on academic probation. Any student who was admitted on a "conditional" status, must have this condition removed. In addition, the following criteria must be satisfied:

  1. Completion of a minimum of 120 credit hours, with an accumulated grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 for baccalaureate degree programs. Various degrees may have different credit hour and GPA requirements, and students in those programs must conform to those specific standards.
  2. Completion of a minimum of 60 credit hours, with a GPA of 2.00 for associate degree programs. Various degrees may have different credit hour and GPA requirements, and students in those programs must conform to those specific standards.
  3. Satisfactory completion of UMA's General Education Requirements.
  4. Satisfactory completion of all requirements for specific degree, major, and concentration.
