Obtaining Your Library Card
Your UMA Student, Faculty or Staff ID card is also your library card. Student ID cards may be obtained at the Information/Card Services desk in the Richard J. Randall Student Center on the University of Maine at Augusta campus. For more information: UMA Card Services.

Activating Your Library Card
Your library barcode number (16-digit number beginning 25022 on the bottom of your ID card) must be activated by the Bennett D. Katz Library before you may begin borrowing privileges and remote access to online library databases and services.
To activate your card stop by the Circulation desk in the library or call 207-621-3349 or toll free 1-800-696-1124, ext. 3349 to speak to a library representative.
Community Borrower Card
The Bennett D. Katz Library also offers Community Borrower cards for UMA alumni, retired UMA faculty and staff and community members of the greater Augusta area. This card provides borrowing priviledges through the URSUS and MaineCat Statewide catalog. This card will not provide access to our online journals and databases.
Community Borrower cards may be obtained at the Circulation desk in the Bennett D. Katz Library on the UMA campus.
Lending Policy
Books:
Loan period (books) - 4 weeks.
Renewal (books) - 4 weeks, unless the book belongs to another library.
Media:
Loan period (CD/DVD/VHS) - 2 weeks
Renewal (CD/DVD/VHS) - 2 weeks, unless the item belongs to another library.
Renewing Items:
You may renew items over the phone by calling 621-3356, 621-3349, 1-800-696-1124, ext. 3349 or by logging into your library account.
Checkout limit - 20 items.
Please note: Only 2 DVD or VHS videos may be borrowed at a time.
Fines and Overdue Notices
All UMA students are sent e-mail notification of overdue items and should make sure their UMA e-mail account is active. UMA faculty and staff, community patrons, and other students in the University of Maine System receive overdue notices by U.S. mail or e-mail, as appropriate.
Overdue charge - Overdue books will accumulate fines according to the circulation policy of that item’s home library.
UMA's fine is $0.50 per day.
Lost book charge -The cost is determined by the item’s home library, plus a $10.00 processing fee.
Payment for fines and lost book charges can be made at the Circulation Desk in the library. Only cash and personal checks accepted. Sorry no debit or credit cards accepted at this time.
Students should be aware that overdue book fines left unpaid will be entered into their student account and may impede class registration, financial aid awards or graduation.
Library Laptop Loan Program
The Katz Library loans HP Probook laptops to UMA students 3-hours of in-library use. Students must be at least 18 years old and present a valid UMA photo ID card to sign out a laptop.
Laptops are available at the Katz Library Circulation desk. UMA student wishing to borrow a laptop must read and sign the Laptop Policy Form which is available at the Circulation desk. If you have any questions, please call us at 621.3349.
