Since 2007, UMA has been proud to host on its Augusta campus the Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine.
Housed in the award-winning Klahr Center that graces our central Green, the Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine’s on-site presence has enabled UMA to forge a new and exciting partnership that has attracted national and international speakers, lecturers, and experts.
Along with this new partnership, UMA has recently launched a Minor in Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Studies (HGHRS). An interdisciplinary program which integrates scholarship and practice, the HGHRS minor encourages students to examine genocide and human rights within their historical and cultural contexts, to understand the causes of genocide, and to consider how to create an environment of tolerance in their world.
UMA is the only university in the United States that offers a minor in Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights that also has an Holocaust and Human Rights focused center right on its campus.
