Cooperative Economy Forum at UMA on March 3
The University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) College of Arts and Sciences and UMA Senior College (UMASC) will present a Cooperative Economy Forum on Sunday, March 3rd at 2:00pm in Room 180 of Jewett Hall on the Augusta campus.
The speaker, Carla Dickstein, Senior VP of Policy, Research, & Development at Coastal Enterprises, Inc. (CEI) in Wiscasset will discuss creating economically and environmentally healthy communities in which all people, especially those with low incomes, can reach their full potential.
Dr. Dickstein received her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania where she wrote her dissertation on, "The Roles of Support Organizations in Worker Cooperative Systems," which led her to publish several peer-reviewed articles on cooperatives. Currently, at CEI she is focused on sustainable development, measuring the impact of community development finance institutions, and subprime lending and foreclosures.
Following her talk, Dickstein will be joined by Dana Faulkingham, a founder of North End Lobster Coop, and Stephen Kovacs, owner of Motorworks in Kittery, for a panel discussion moderated by UMA Senior College’s Chuck Acker.
The forum is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served during the break period. For more information about Forum on the Future, call the UMA Senior College at 621-3551, or email umasc@maine.edu.
