  • UMA 2008-09 STUDENT HANDBOOK IS AVAILABLE
    The Student Handbook explains important UMA and University of Maine System (UMS) policies and procedures and provides vital information regarding student services and opportunities.  It is essential that you read the handbook and become familiar with it at www.uma.edu/studenthandbook.html or request a print copy from the Office of the Dean of Students in Augusta at 621-3176/1-877-UMA-1234, ext. 3176, or maryh@maine.edu.
  • OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE ON UMA’s STUDENT CONDUCT COMMITTEES
    Perupdated Student Conduct Procedures ( http://www.uma.edu/studenthandbookpol-s.html#scp ), UMA is assembling new Student Conduct Committees on both campuses.  Submit student nominations via the SGA Presidents: Augusta - up to 6 (Amanda Frost ( amanda.frost@maine.edu )), Bangor - up to 6 (Kimberly Draper ( kimberly.draper@maine.edu )), and Distance Ed - 1 for each campus (Kate Wolf ( catherine.wolf@maine.edu )). Nominees must be in good academic standing and have excellent communication and critical thinking skills.   • COED GOLF
    UMA is starting a coed golf team this fall.  If you are interested in joining the golf team, please contact Warren Newton (wnewton@maine.edu), Athletic Director, or 621-3512.
  • MITCO GROUP
    Making It Through College with a Mental Illness (MITCO) is a support program for UMA students with a mental illness.  The goal of the program is to provide emotional support, a social network, and study strategies to help students achieve and maintain success at UMA.  FMI: Judith DeMilo Brown at 621-3421.
  • W.I.S.E. (WEEKLY INFORMATION TO STUDY EFFECTIVELY)
    Effective use of math tutoring   Come at the first hint of trouble or confusion. Don't wait until the last minute. Visit a tutor as soon as you begin having difficulties with your math to stay on the path to academic success.   • DENIM DAY
    Lee National Denim Day® is one of the largest single-day fundraisers for breast cancer. On Oct. 3, millions of people nationwide will wear their favorite jeans and make a $5 donation to support the Women’s Cancer Programs of EIF. Please join us in this effort.   • LOW COST DENTAL HYGIENE CLINIC
    UMA's Bangor campus offers a low-cost dental hygiene clinic to the public from September - April. All dental hygiene services are provided (including oral cancer screenings, dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, athletic mouth guards and x-rays). Services are provided by dental hygiene students under the close supervision of faculty. FMI: UCB Dental Health Programs at 262-7872.
  • FREE TUTORING
    Free Tutoring begins on Monday, September 8!  Subjects tutored include Math, Writing, French, and Music Theory.  FMI: Judith DeMilo Brown at 621-3421 or 195 JWTH.
  • PEER TUTORS NEEDED
    Peer Tutors are needed for: math, writing, business, CIS, and science.  If you are good in one of these subjects and would like to be paid for helping other students to get good grades, please contact Judith DeMilo Brown ( judith.demilo@maine.edu ) at 621-3421.
  • WORK-STUDY STUDENTS NEEDED
    Work-study students are needed for UCB's Office of Civic Engagement. FMI: Warren ( wnewton@maine.edu ) at 262-7817.
  • CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE
    Registration is free for the Climate Change Conference at the University of Maine, October 23 and 24.  Free bus transportation to and from Augusta on October 23 will be provided.  Complete the registration form at http://www.umaine.edu/conferences/  by September 23 and sign up for the bus with Rose Pelletier at 204 RSTC or 621-3442.
  • CHIHARU NARUSE, CLASSICAL PIANIST, IN CONCERT
    Friday, October 17, there will be a performance by Chiharu Naruse in Jewett Hall Auditorium at 7:30 PM.  Free tickets for students are available in the Student Life Office, RSTC 204.   Sponsored by the Office of Student Life and the Augusta Student Programming Fund.  FMI:  Rose Pelletier ( mailto:rosep@maine.edu ) or call 621-3442.
  • GET YOUR UMA STUDENT ID CARD!
    Photo ID cards for registered students are available through the ID Card Services Office in Augusta (RSTC Info Desk) or Advising Services in Bangor (Lewiston Hall). The UMA Card provides access to library services and on-campus printing, and is the official UMA identification card.   • REBUILD NEW ORLEANS
    The Office of Civic Engagement is organizing a Habitat for Humanity effort during February 2009 break (February 14- 21) in New Orleans, Louisiana.  For details and information: Andrea Emch ( andrea.emch@maine.edu ), 621-3173, or RSTC #132 (Augusta).
  • UMA STUDENTS INVITED ON UMFK's TRIP TO SOUTH AMERICA
    including Santiago, Montevideo, and Buenos Aires, planned for May 14-May 22, 2009. Details: $3,875 per person/ double room; $500 deposit due October 1; final payment due February 1; final date for sign-up February 1, 2009.   • VERMONT CAMPUS COMPACT STUDENT CONFERENCE
    The 9th annual conference will be held November 7- 9 in Middlebury, Vermont. Sign up begins September 15 and requires $10.  Augusta and Distance Education students can sign up in the Student Activities Office, RSTC 204, or 621-3374/1-877-UMA-1234.  Bangor students can sign up in the Office of Student Development in Eastport Hall.  FMI: Andrea Emch ( andrea.emch@maine.edu ), 621-3173, or Augusta RSTC #132.
  • SERVE NNE
    The UMA Office of Civic Engagement is now accepting applications for the 2008-2009 Americorps SERVE NNE $1000 Education Award program.  The focus of the program is community service.  For more details and/or an application: Andrea Emch ( andrea.emch@maine.edu ) or 621-3173.
  • 50/50 RAFFLE TICKETS FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
    UMA students are currently selling 50/50 raffle tickets to raise funds for the Habitat for Humanity efforts during the spring semester.  Tickets are available in the Office of Civic Engagement in Augusta, RSTC #132.  FMI: Andrea Emch ( andrea.emch@maine.edu ) or 621-3173.
  • AMERICAN RED CROSS TRAINING
    A CPR, FIRST AID, and AED instructors course will be offered during September and October.  Classes run 8:30 AM. through 4:00 PM on October 1, 7, and 14.  Participants must attend all classes to receive certification.  Classes will be held in Augusta, RSTC #218 (large conference room).  Cost is $212.  FMI or to sign up: Andrea Emch ( andrea.emch@maine.edu ) or 621-3173.
  • CIVIC ENGAGEMENT ESSAY CONTEST
    Be a part of UMA's 2nd Annual Civic Engagement Essay Contest.  Prizes will be given for 1st - 5th place.  The first-place winner will receive a free class.  For details and information:  Andrea Emch ( andrea.emch@maine.edu ), Office of Civic Engagement, 621-3173, or in Augusta, RSTC #132.
  • KEEP HUNGER AT BAY AT THE MOOSE TRACKS CAFÉ
    The Moose Tracks Café, located in the Randall Student Technology Center, has new hours this year: Monday-Thursday, 8:45 AM-4:00 PM; Friday, 8:45 AM- 2:00 PM.  Check out the daily specials on the hot line (621-3449).  Stop by to try one of the new frozen drink specials or a new, made-to-order deli sandwich.  And, as always, they look forward to feeding you soon!
  • UCB FOOD SERVICE
