This 9-month certificate program, prepares students for the Dental Assisting National Board exam and the Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential. Obtaining the CDA credential adds marketability to your job search as many employers, such as Federally Qualified Healthcare facilities are looking to specifically recruit dental assistants with the CDA credential. Additionally, the Maine Board of Dental Examiners has recently approved the Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA), expanding the personal and professional development horizons of CDA’s.
Dental assistants can expect to find excellent employment prospects. Most dental assistants are employed by general dentists. Opportunities to assist in dental specialties such as periodontics, oral surgery, and orthodontics are available as well. Dental assistants can also find employment opportunities in public health settings, government and military clinics, dental schools, and corporate settings.
