DEA150 CLINICAL PRACTICE
Gives the student the opportunity to practice dental assisting under direct supervision in private practice offices. Prerequisite: DEA101, DEA102, DEH100, DEH203, DEH304, DEH306, BIO100. 23 hours clinic, 1 hour seminar. CR 6
DEA151 CHAIRSIDE DENTAL ASSISTING II
Presents the fundamental concepts of endodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, and pediatric dentistry. Students will gain a knowledge and appreciation for the specialty practices, with theories and functions. Emphasis placed on the dental assistant’s role in these areas. DEA152 DENTAL OFFICE MANAGEMENT
A survey of various aspects of dental office management including appointment controls, business and patient record keeping, dental payment plans and inventory control. Topics also include communications, resume writing, interviewing and management. Prerequisite: DA major or permission of instructor. Lec 3. CR 3
DEA153 DENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION
Emphasis on theories and techniques of patient education and motivation. Discusses etiology of dental diseases and their prevention, and the role of the dental assistant in community dental health. Prerequisite: DA major or permission of instructor. Lec 2. CR 2
DEA154 BIODENTAL SCIENCES II
Covers the essentials of oral head and neck anatomy, oral history, oral embryology, oral pathology, pharmacology and human nutrition. Prerequisite: BIO100. Lec 3. CR 3
DEH100 INTRODUCTION TO THE DENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONS
An historical perspective of the dental profession, accessing and utilizing current professional literature and an introduction to professional ethics and dental jurisprudence. Lec 1. Prerequisite: Enrollment in the Dental Health Programs or permission of the instructor. CR 1
DEH203 DENTAL RADIOLOGY
Topics include ionizing radiation, the history of x-rays, their production and properties, radiation measurement radiation hazards and principles of radiation safety. Covers theory and practice of exposing, processing, mounting and interpreting dental radiographs. Prerequisite: enrollment in Dental Health Program, or high school diploma with six months clinical dental office experience and instructor permission. Corequisite: DEH201 or DEA101. Lec 1.5, Lab 3. DEH213 DENTAL MATERIALS
The study of various dental procedures, materials and devices commonly used in dental practice. Emphasis placed on the general composition of materials, their properties and manipulation. Prerequisite: enrollment in the Dental Health Program. Corequisite: DEH217 for Assistants. Lec 2. CR 2
