DaPonte photoThe "Concerts at Jewett” Series, sponsored by the University of Maine at Augusta College of Arts and Sciences and UMA Senior College, will feature the DaPonte String Quartet on Sunday, April 7, 2013, 2 pm (1 pm pre-concert talk) at the University of Maine at Augusta, Jewett Auditorium.

This concert series favorite will return to Jewett Hall to share their extraordinary musical skill along with their personable and accessible style that makes their music relevant and fresh. Dino Liva (violin), Lydia Forbes (violin), Kirsten Monke (viola) and Myles Jordan (cello) will perform Haydn's Quartet in Bb Major, Op. 76, no. 4 “The Sunrise”, Stravinsky's “ 3 Pieces for String Quartet”, and Borodin's Quartet no, 2 in D Major.

Not long after forming in Philadelphia twenty years ago, the DaPonte String Quartet surprised the musical world by moving from a cosmopolitan urban area to rural Maine. The DSQ had been — and continues to be — sought after to perform and teach all over the U.S. and around the world. They have appeared in France, Scotland, Canada, and more than twenty American states. Their performances have been broadcast over nation-wide radio and television programs in both the United States and Canada. They perform a wide-ranging and varied repertoire which spans the entire history of music, from seventeenth-century works on original instruments to cutting-edge contemporary quartets. The DaPonte String Quartet celebrated its 20th Anniversary and its members are still proud to call Maine home.

Tickets are $10 for adults, students $5, 12 & under free. Tickets are available at Pat 's Pizza in Augusta, Apple Valley Books in Winthrop, and at the door. Call 621-3551, or email umasc@maine.edu for more information or for mail order tickets. http://concertsatjewett.com/
