Application Deadline:
Applicants may have completed high school with a traditional diploma, a GED, or a home-school certification. Applicants are considered regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, or disability.
Enrollment is limited and students are accepted on a competitive basis. Entrance requirements for the Dental Hygiene Program are College-Preparatory Biology with Lab, College-Preparatory Chemistry with Lab, Algebra 1 (all grades C- or higher), and a grade point average minimum of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale. Applicants to either program without prior college experience, demonstrating success in English and math, also must complete the Accuplacer placement testing, offered at UMA’s two campuses and various Higher Education Centers. Selections are based on scholastic standing in science courses, primarily, and overall grade point average, secondarily. Applicants are first notified of acceptance into the upcoming Fall class after the February Admissions Review meeting. Decisions for remaining slots are made the first week in June.
Admissions to the Bachelor of Science Completion degree in Dental Hygiene can be approved on a rolling admissions basis, and students can begin in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Applicants to the Completion degree must have earned an Associate of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from a CODA-accredited program.
A completed application includes:
- An application (UMA Short Application Form, University of Maine System Application, or UMS Online Application)
- A high school transcript of all courses completed
- Official, sealed college transcripts, from each institution attended, if applicable
- A list of courses presently in progress
- Application fee of $40.00
- Accuplacer testing scores in reading comprehension, writing skills, and math for applicants without prior college credit
