Dental hygiene licensure varies from state to state. You should contact the state you are interested in working in for their specific licensure requirements. To be eligible for licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) in most states are: graduate from an accredited dental hygiene program; take and pass the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination; take the appropriate clinical examination required by the state. Additionally, the State of Maine requires a criminal background check. Some convictions can prohibit an applicant from obtaining licensure.
