- Application status appears to be complete?
Allow the UMA Financial Aid Office a minimum of two (2) weeks to review materials from the last date of receipt, including confirmation of admission to a degree program.
Notification of eligibility to qualified students begins as soon as April 1st for the upcoming academic year. Monitor your awards using your MaineStreet account.
- Financial aid not on billing account?
Federal law prevents UMA from disbursing aid funds to your account until 10 days prior to a semester start date.
- Credit hour mismatch?
The number of credits you have registered for each semester must match the credit hour range* of your financial aid to transfer to your billing account. Avoid refund delays by making sure your credits match! (* Refer to the “Registration Match” section of “Receiving Your Aid”.)
- Where’s my financial aid refund?
The Student Accounts Office begins to authorize the issuance of refund checks to eligible students beginning the week prior to the start of each semester and continues each week throughout the semester. Refunds are sent to the MaineStreet mailing addresses of qualifying students.

- Who Does What?
The UMA Financial Aid Office administers and awards federal, state and university student aid funds to eligible students. The UMA Financial Aid Office, in accordance with federal law, cannot disburse funds directly to students. Approved funds are transferred to the UMA Student Accounts Office.
The UMA Student Accounts Office administers student accounts receivables (student bills) in accordance with the tuition and fees established by the UMS Board of Trustees. This office manages all refunds, including excess financial aid, as well as the transfer of student funds to approved campuses of enrollment. They also bill agencies for external scholarships, as well as third-party sponsors of student tuition, fees and/or book costs.
The UMA Registrar’s Office manages student course enrollment, including add/drop, withdrawals and grades; certifies all verification of enrollment and graduation requests, including loan deferment forms; provides official UMA transcripts; evaluates college transcripts for students transferring to UMA from other colleges; manages student immunization records and certifies eligibility for veteran’s benefits.
The UMA Admissions Office evaluates the qualifications of applicants for admission to a UMA degree and certificate programs via an application and supporting documentation including high school and prior college transcripts.
The UMA Human Resources Office processes student payroll and provides verification of work earnings.
