About the Financial Services Program

Designed to emphasize practical applications, our Financial Services general core curriculum is complemented by specialized courses in personal financial planning, consumer lending, trust operations, international finance, life and health insurance, property and casualty insurance, business finance, and investment management.

The skills and knowledge gained through study in Financial Services ensure that graduates are competent in a variety of fields.  At the time of graduation, students will possess:

  • a well-rounded understanding of the major functional areas of business administration and financial services including:
    • the ability to prepare, read, analyze and communicate financial information
    • an understanding of the fundamental legal concepts and their application to the business community
    • a basic knowledge of the use of information technology in managing organizations and the ability to apply modern scientific and mathematical methods to management problems
  • an understanding of the U.S. banking system and its regulation, examination, and control
  • the ability to develop a life-time financial plan
  • the ability to evaluate various types of investments in terms of their risks and potential returns
  • an understanding of the institutional structure of the securities markets
  • an understanding of the role of a manager in the international business environment and economic conditions that affect international trade


Graduates can find positions in a variety of settings: nonprofit organizations, large corporations, consulting and accounting firms; government agencies; insurance companies, banks, colleges and universities; and self-employment.
