Forum on the Future - Better Health Care At Lower Cost on October 21

Forum on the FutureThe Senior College and the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Maine at Augusta will continue the ongoing discussion of United States Health Care at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 21 in the Jewett Hall Auditorium on the Augusta Campus.  This is the third in the healthcare series in the Forum on the Future.

The first speaker is Elizabeth Mitchell, CEO of the Maine Health Management Coalition, an organization whose mission is to improve the value of healthcare services.  She also serves as CEO of the Maine Health Management Coalition Foundation that is dedicated to performance measurement and public reporting of medical care.  While serving two terms in the Maine State Legislature, Elizabeth Mitchell chaired the Health and Human Services Committee.  She is also serves on the Board of the National Business Coalition on Health and Vicechair of the Board of the Network for Regional Health Improvement among other activities.

This forum will focus on Better Health Care--at Lower Cost, and begins with Elizabeth Mitchell’s presentation.  After a break, she will be joined by:

  • Sue Henderson, 2-term president of the American Nurses Association of Maine who has a masters degree in Public Policy and has taught nursing at USM and Saint Josephs College of Maine.
  • Mike Donahue, Vice President of Payor Contracting and Relations at Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems.
  • Skip White, General Manager, Employer and Provider Partnerships, Martin’s Point.
  • Chuck Acker of UMA Senior College will moderate a panel of the above three with questions from the audience.
