GEY 103 Environmental Geology

This course is designed to introduce the student to the geologic environment within which we live. It will demonstrate how geologic activities, such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions impact our existence, and how human activity, such as waste disposal, soil erosion and water pollution, impact the environment we depend on for existence. It will present basic geologic principles, the formation and structure of the Earth, and its ever-changing character. Several field trips, including two possible Saturday trips are planned as laboratory exercises. Prerequisite: a minimum grade of "C" in ENG 5, MAT 9, and REA 8, or appropriate scores on the UMA placement test.
