Request for Photocopy of Article
The Interlibrary Loan Department provides access to materials not held by Katz Library.
Patrons with valid IDs can use the requestor function in URSUS to borrow from other University of Maine System libraries, the Maine State Library and the Bangor Public Library.
POLICY
- Currently enrolled students, faculty and staff of The University of Maine at
Augusta may use interlibrary loan services. For UMA students, faculty and staff, we will search in-state and out-of-state locations for books and periodical articles. ITV and other distance education students should contact Off-Campus Library Services.
- For courtesy card patrons, interlibrary loan service is limited to in-state borrowing.
- The following types of materials cannot be obtained: reference books, bulky or fragile items; rare or valuable materials; textbooks; dissertations; and entire issues of journals.
PROCEDURE
- Interlibrary loan request forms are available at the circulation and information desks in Katz Library. Online forms are available (see links above). It is important to fill out the forms accurately and completely. For a periodical article request, please include the source of the reference (index, database, or bibliography).
- Patrons are notified by mail when materials are ready for pick-up at the circulation desk. Items on the hold shelf are shelved under the patron’s name and will be held for a period of two weeks.
FEES
- Books:
Most libraries do not charge for the loan of books. If there will be a charge for a loan, the Interlibrary Loan department will notify you before requesting the loan.
- Articles:
Every effort is made to procure photocopies of articles at no cost to the user. However, when we cannot obtain materials free of charge, we will pass on charges to the patron. If you are willing to pay for an article, you must so indicate on the request form. Be sure to limit your cost.
LOAN PERIODS
- Loan periods for books are set by the lending libraries. Most books may be renewed for two weeks. Please request a renewal a few days before the item is due.
- Please be sure to leave the interlibrary loan book slip in the book when you return it to the library.
