BACKGROUND:
With its continued evolution into a full-fledged baccalaureate institution, a new strategic plan that reflects this evolution, and a name change for its Bangor campus, the timing seemed right for UMA to adopt a new institutional logo.
A committee that included the President, the Provost (a former member of the art faculty), a current member of the art faculty, the Dean of Enrollment Services and the head of UMA's marketing efforts, worked closely over the past two months with one of the top logo designers in the state.
From close to 200 potential designs, the committee gravitated to one particular design that was shared with the entire campus community in early March. Based on student, faculty, and staff feedback, which was strongly positive, some changes to the logo were made. The modified logo was subsequently reviewed by the Cabinet, the Faculty Senate, and the Student General Assembly.
The new logo goes into effect on April 4, 2011 and will be rolled out over the next several months. At this point, no one should be disposing of materials that have the old logo. However, as any new materials are produced, the new logo should be used.
GUIDELINES
- The logo: The logo is the three UMA letters with the triangular roof above it. The logo is an image and not a font, and may not be changed.
- Colors: The logo may be used in black and white, or in the green and blue colors shown. For color printing, the PMS colors are pantone 360 (green) and 7463 (blue).
- Copy underneath the logo: The logo may be used without any wording beneath it, or with any variety of wording. Shown in the links below are some examples of the more likely uses of wording to appear underneath the logo. However, any department, organization, or initiative name may also be used underneath.
In all cases, the wording that appears underneath the logo must be in the Eurostile font.
All logo examples shown in the linked pages below are high resolution and ready to use. If you need other formats or have any questions, please contact Cindy Hook at cwhook@maine.edu or 207/621-3446.
