Anticipated faculty Vacancy

The University of Maine at Augusta (www.uma.edu) is one of seven universities in the University of Maine System.  Its main campus is located in Augusta, Maine’s capital city.  It is surrounded by scenic lake country and offers ready access to the winter and coastal recreational areas for which Maine is famous.  UMA has a second campus in Bangor, which is located in the heart of Maine.  Bangor is a friendly city filled with excitement, opportunity and activity, and it serves as a gateway to a Maine region of great natural beauty.

Known for its high-quality student support services and strong, caring faculty, UMA serves a mix of both traditional and non-traditional students, and offers a wide array of educational programs including certificates, Associate degrees, and Baccalaureate degrees.  UMA has a rich history in distance education and a strong support system to facilitate course design and delivery.   Educational programs are delivered through a network of University centers and sites located in eight regions of the state, and via many distance education modes, including statewide interactive television, video conferencing, and online instruction.

Faculty positions require teaching both day and evening on our campuses in Augusta, Bangor, and/or at University College Centers; student advising; curriculum development; research and scholarship; university and community service.

UMA is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time tenure track Political Science/Public Administration faculty.  The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and excellent communication skills.  This faculty member will be expected to offer courses in multiple distance education modes, all of which are delivered online.  The teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester.  Responsibilities will include a substantial subset of the following courses:  Intro to Politics and Government, American State and Local Government, Intro to Public Administration, Public Budgeting and Financial Administration, Administrative Law, eGovernment, Public Opinion, Research Methods, and Public Program Evaluation.  A capacity to teach eGovernment preferred.  The appointment will begin Fall semester, 2013.

Qualifications:  An earned doctorate in political science or public administration is strongly preferred.  Candidates with ABD status in either of these disciplines may be considered, with the understanding that a doctoral degree is required for the awarding of tenure.  Teaching experience at the university level is required; preference is given to those who have taught using various modalities with significant technology.  Ability to or willingness to teach courses for online delivery is required.

Salary:  The normal hiring range, with tenure, for this position is mid-fifties to low-sixties, dependent upon experience and qualifications.  The University offers an excellent fringe benefits package.

Review of applications will begin immediately.  Please submit a cover letter; curriculum vitae/resume; transcripts; and the names, complete mailing addresses, and daytime telephone numbers of three professional references to:  Administrative Services, POS/PA Faculty Search, University of Maine at Augusta, 46 University Drive, Augusta, ME  04330.

We are an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities upon request. The University of Maine at Augusta encourages and values diversity among its students, faculty, and staff.  UMA is a member of the University of Maine System and a recipient of the Wellness Councils of America’s Well Workplace Award.
