Prior to that I was an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and earlier Chair of the Western Piedmont Community College, NC, Criminal Justice Department.

Highlights from my career include Director of the Institute for Leadership Development at SUNY Brockport. While at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Lumb I was assigned as the Director of the Research, Planning, and Analysis Bureau at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for five years and developed an internationally recognized crime and problem-solving GIS analysis program. I have been active throughout my life in working with agencies and communities to assist them resolve problems, enhance effectiveness and efficiency, and engage in research and publication.
