Education
A.S., University of Maine at Augusta, 1973
B.S., University of Southern Maine, 1975
M.P.A., University of Maine, 1982
I want to welcome you to the University of Maine at Augusta web site and take the time to introduce myself to you. I have been both a professor and an administrator here at UMA since September 1996. Prior to that period I was a Deputy Chief of Police for 12 years in Maine law enforcement and I started my career in criminal justice in 1971 here at the UMA. My expertise in the criminal justice field includes: Police Civil Liability, Community Policing, and am certified as an instructor in many law enforcement related topics. I am active at both the national and international level in justice related programs and have provided education or training programs at the national level and in several foreign countries. As a teacher, I am very enamored of adult learning styles and prefer to be a coach and mentor in the learning experience. Students say that my classes are demanding but I believe that excellence is only attained when one has to reach beyond the norm.
In my professional career I have had the opportunity to become a nationally certified instructor, write a number of articles for criminal justice publications, presented national awards for outstanding training contribution and professional expertise from organizations such as the New England Chiefs of Police, and The American Society for Law Enforcement Training.
