Topics to be included are human reproductive anatomy and physiology, sexual arousal, fertility, types and functions of birth control devices, conception, pregnancy and family planning, aging and sexuality, and alternative sexual patterns.

SSC 289 Global Citizenship
This course is designed to serve as an opportunity for students to participate in global citizenship, to strengthen their intercultural competencies and meet UMA’s general education requirements in the areas of cultural diversity and social sciences. Students will increase their knowledge and cultural awareness by selected psychosocial institutions and topics by collaborating with peers and faculty from universities in three countries. The selected topics are developed to support multiple programs and to strengthen students identity as global citizens. There are no prerequisites for enrollment in the course. 3 credits

SSC 320 Research Methods in Social Sciences
Introduces upper-level undergraduate students in the social sciences and related professional areas to social research methods. Examines research questions, hypotheses, research designs, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis techniques, and data interpretation strategies. Students will be expected to gain competence in procedures used in assessing published research reports. Provides an opportunity to become familiar with ethical issues in social research. Prerequisite: At least one introductory course in the social sciences and MAT 100.

To violate the most basic human rights, is to deny individuals their fundamental moral entitlements. The focus of the course will be on how the experience of intentional psychological and physical torture affect individuals, families and societies.
