UMA Accounting Society and Business Club (ASBC)
The UMA Accounting Society and Business Club is a student managed club for any student who has an interest in accounting or business and is currently registered to take classes through UMA.
The purpose of this organization is to provide a social setting for UMA students to promote interest in the accounting and business professions as a career, educate students about the various career paths available to accountants/business people and to develop high ethical, scholastic, and professional aspirations in its members through peer interaction, professional engagements and community service.
The ASBC has nominated Professor Barbara Rowell as the association’s advisor. She will be a source of information and instruction. Professor Rowell will also ensure compliance with policies of the organization and University. The Executive Board of the ASBC is voted on every April. The elected officials of the 2013 election are President Ronald Cohen, Vice President Chris Chaput, Treasurer Alison LincolnRich, and Secretary Peter Quigley.
The ASBC holds meetings at the Augusta campus at least twice every semester, excluding summer session. Meetings are broadcast live to UMA sites via streaming video. Members at sites may call in to participate in discussions and cast their votes. The organization has high aspirations for future projects. These include field trips to businesses to get a better understanding of real world accounting and business environments, a student mentoring program for new UMA students, various charity functions, and an investment club.
