Academic and Career Advising: It’s important to get started on the right foot and academic Placement Testing helps you do just that. With appropriate experience and knowledge, you may also accelerate your progress by gaining credit for prior learning through Testing & Portfolio Credit including CLEP, DANTES and portfolio assessment. Clear goals for your future increase motivation and often save you time and money.  If undecided, you can work with a career advisor or participate in a career workshopJob Search Assistance and graduate school information is also available.  Consultation with an academic advisor is essential to success.  Academic Advising Centers staffed by professional advisors who partner with faculty help you choose the right courses in the correct sequence and provide reliable information about academic policies and requirements.

Dean of Students: All locations provide new student orientations for new, returning and transfer students. A comprehensive Student Handbook familiarizes you with resources, policies, rights and responsibilities. You can purchase student health insurance and you may qualify for local discounts with your student ID. You will also find referrals for off-campus housing and child care.

Learning Support Services: No matter what your skill level, you can always enhance your capacity to learn. UMA offers free tutoring and assistance with study skills. There are face-to-face and video streamed workshops, as well as on-line learning tools. You will also find services for qualified students with disabilities who may experience unique learning challenges.

Student Life: Involvement is linked to success. There are many social, recreational, co-curricular, and cultural activities; most welcome the participation of your family and friends. A weekly electronic news bulletin highlights upcoming events. Clubs and organizations provide opportunities to make new friends, share common interests, and develop your leadership skills. Student Government represents students’ interests and manages student funds. You’ll also find comfortable places to relax – such as the Richard Randall Student Center in Augusta. A healthy lifestyle contributes to your success. Our campuses provide access to fitness facilities, wellness resources and outdoor adventures. Athletic teams available at UMA are Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men's and Women’s Soccer, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Co-ed Bowling, and Co-ed Golf.

Counseling Services:  The challenges and changes associated with college are demanding. You will find counselors, support groups, and community-based referrals to help you through any stressful times. You will also find personal development opportunities to improve your academic achievement, personal wellbeing and prospects for professional success.

You will find in-depth training and individual assistance in career planning, starting a business, leadership development, and money management, including information and eligibility about financial resources, such as Family Development Accounts (FDA), to help you pay for your college education, home or business ownership.
