Ed Rice Speaks About New Book on Andrew Sockalexis

Ed Rice speaks

On April 7, adjunct faculty member Ed Rice spoke to a gathering of 25 students, faculty, and staff on the subject of his new book, Native Trailblazer.  Rice's book tells the story of Andrew Sockalexis, a marathon runner who finished fourth in the 1912 Olympics and twice finished second in the Boston Marathon.  Andrew Sockalexis was a member of the Penobscot tribe, a resident of Old Town, Maine, and a cousin of Louis Sockalexis, who was the first Native American to play major league baseball.

The Library thanks Mr. Rice for his enlightening discussion and for his donation of a signed copy of his book.  The Library also thanks the Women in the Curriculum program for sponsoring the book talk.
