Teacher Preparation Programs

UMA offers student teaching experiences for those seeking a Maine Department of Education endorsement for secondary teacher (7-12). Students who wish to student teach must apply the semester before he or she wishes to student teach. The application deadline for spring placements is October 1; the application deadline for fall placements is February 1. The student teaching practicum is a 15 week, 15 credit course (EDU 490). Student teachers are placed in schools within a reasonable driving distance of their homes. Student teachers work closely with their mentor teacher and their university supervisor throughout the student teaching experience. Student teachers also meet monthly via video conference platforms and participate in a portfolio defense at the conclusion of their student teaching practicums.
