Objective 1.3.4 Strategies and Benchmarks
1.3.4 The University will review and amend academic policies to ensure they are consistent with a baccalaureate mission.
During FY '08 the Faculty Senate's Academic Policy Committee in conjunction with Provost's Staff will review all of UMA's academic policies and procedures. Determinations will be made as part of that review if an existing policy or practice is: appropriate to the current mission; is in need of revision; and if a policy or procedure is in need of revision, who or what group/committee* is the appropriate one to revise it. The review will further determine which, if any, policies or practices should be eliminated. Finally, it will determine what academic areas are in need of new written policies and/or procedures, and who is the appropriate person or group/committee to draft it.
From FY '09 through FY '11 needed revisions, deletions, and additions will be made through the academic governance structure to bring UMA's academic policies and procedures in line with its regional baccalaureate mission.
* At this time there is not a Faculty Concerns Committee, but as recommended in 2.3.2 of the UMA Strategic Plan a (Faculty Senate) committee should be formed to reflect the concerns covered by NEASC Standard 5 on Faculty. Prior to the review it is deemed likely that certain revisions, deletions and additions of policies and procedures would most appropriately be handled by such a group. E.g. the practices related to Faculty Development funds.
