Objective 1.4.5 Strategies and Benchmarks
1.4.5 The University will seek to expand opportunities for international studies and international exchange programs for faculty and students in cooperation with other institutions in the University of Maine System.
When it is clear that the System will or will not proceed to centralize some efforts to bring foreign exchanges to all the campuses, we will explore how best UMA may take advantage of, and contribute to, those opportunities. If and when the System proceeds with these efforts, the Provost will work with the Academic Deans and the Faculty Senate to build strategies and benchmarks for UMA.
If the System decides it will not follow-up on its efforts, UMA will need to collaborate with other universities, agencies, and groups to promote international learning and teaching opportunities. In FY '09, the Provost will charge the Diversity Committee, the Distance Learning Council and the Academic Programs to explore and inventory options available for UMA to develop a sustainable international experience for faculty and students. In FY '10, the Provost will convene the leadership of the three groups to build strategies and benchmarks to be initiated in FY '11.
