
Objective 1.5.1 Strategies and Benchmarks
1.5.1 Under the leadership of the Dean of Libraries and Distance Learning, the Provost will renew and activate UMA's Distance Learning Council (DLC) as a collaborative central agent for positive change and expanded engagement in distance education at UMA.
Beginning in FY '07 and ongoing thereafter the re-activated UMA Distance Learning Council, in collaboration with the University of Maine System DLC, will be central to UMA's efforts in refining and expanding distance learning programming. The Provost, academic deans, Dean of L&DL and the DLC will evaluate and clarify the role of the UMA DLC. During FY '07 the DLC will review and consider draft documents including: an agenda for the year, priorities for online course development, a document clarifying support options for faculty and a new application for academic approval for all distance education. The DLC will hold meetings at least every two months. Members of the UMA DLC will actively engaging other faculty members about their interests, needs and concerns related to distance learning.
The benchmarks for this objective is that members of the UMA DLC are active participants, providing input and recommendations, that the UMA faculty as a whole is more aware of the UMA DLC's efforts, and finally, that the number of online courses increase for fall 2007.
