Objective 1.5.6 Strategies and Benchmarks

1.5.6    The DLC, in collaboration with the academic colleges, Program Coordinators and the Faculty Senate, will study best practices for teaching both with technology and at a distance and contribute to the scholarship of teaching both within UMA and at professional meetings elsewhere.

Beginning in FY '09, at least two UMA faculty members and one DLC member will participate in or present at distance learning conferences and workshops annually. They will share that information with the DLC, as well as other venues within UMA and the UMS such as UC Faculty Institute, the UMA Faculty Retreat, or Research and Pedagogy lunches.  In FY '09, the Provost will earmark additional faculty development funds in support of these efforts.

The intent of this objective is fourfold.

  1. Improve the quality and access of the learning experience for UMA students at a distance
  2. To strengthen individual UMA faculty member's skills and knowledge in the delivery of distance education
  3. Expand the collective faculty's skills and knowledge in the delivery of distance education
  4. Re-establish UMA's role as a leader in distance education
