3.1.1 A reinvigorated Advising Steering Committee will coordinate UMA retention efforts.
During FY '07, the Provost will draft a charge for the Advising Steering Committee to include coordination of campus student retention efforts and appoint the membership. Beginning in September of 2007 (FY '08) the Committee will oversee the assessment of current advising practices and their impact on retention, review relevant NSSE data, and generate an Advising Improvement Plan by May of 2008. Starting in September of 2008 (FY '09) the Committee will expand its review to other UMA retention-oriented activities and national best practices, and create the first draft of a campus retention plan by May of 2009. During the following years the Committee will advocate for the necessary resources and ensure accountability to the plan.
