Objective 3.3.1 Strategies and Benchmarks

3.3.1 The Dean of Students will collaborate with other campus units to measure and report students' priority support needs, preferred delivery modes, perceived barriers to educational attainment, levels of satisfaction and graduate success.

The Dean of Students will serve as the project manager for the initial, spring 2007 NSSE survey. During fall 2007 the Provost's Staff, with assistance from the Director of Information Systems, will review the results, issue a report to all interested campus constituencies, and identify data requiring further study and clarification. During spring 2008, a working group chaired by the Dean of Students will adapt the "off-(NSSE)year" Graduating Senior Survey to clarify ambiguities in the original NSSE data and assess progress in targeted NSSE measures. The Provost's Staff, in conjunction with the Advising Committee, will recommend remediation priorities for FY '09. The second NSSE survey will take place in spring of 2010 and the Provost's Staff will monitor results for evidence of desired improvements.

By December 2007 the Department of Academic and Career Advising will implement an annual survey geared to (non-continuing) graduates from the previous year (e.g., summer and fall 2006 and spring 2007) to determine each graduate's current employment and/or continuing education status and their assessment of the role UMA played in their career preparation. By May of 2008 the Department will implement a biennial survey of known employers of UMA graduates to attain feedback on their perception of the quality of UMA graduates' career preparation.

By May of 2008 the Dean of Students, in conjunction with the Advising Committee, will secure approval and funding to implement an ongoing new student intake and assessment survey to commence in fall of 2008. The data collected from new students prior to or early in their first semester of attendance will be used to initiate early interventions for students deemed "at risk" and set priorities for services. During summer and fall of 2008 the Dean of Students and the Advising staff will deliver training to staff and faculty in the appropriate use of survey results. Following the phased implementation of the early intervention program during FY '08, retention rates for the class admitted in FY '09 will serve as the first measure of the program's impact.
