Objective 5.1.1 Strategies and Benchmarks

5.1.1 Academic deans, in consultation with Administrative Services, will ensure an effective, timely and consistent faculty recruitment process and a comprehensive orientation program for new faculty. 

In fall 2006 the Provost will work with Academic Coordinators, the Academic Deans and the V.P. for Administration review and revise the process for conducting faculty searches.  Time permitting the revised process will be used for the FY '07 searches, if not it will be used the following year. 

In fall 2006 the Provost will survey recent hires about what useful information and activities did occur to help orient them to UMA, and what they would have liked to occur that did not.  The gathered information will be reviewed and discussed by Provost's staff and the V.P. for Administration.  During fall 2007 a plan for a comprehensive orientation of new faculty will be drafted by the Provost and Academic Deans.  The drafted plan will be forwarded to faculty for review, amending and endorsement.  Once endorsed the plan will be implemented with an anticipated start date of fall 2008.
