Objective 6.2.4 Strategies and Benchmarks

6.2.4 The University will seek partners to enhance production and broadcast capabilities in Jewett Hall Auditorium in order to share programming with the greater UMA community.

There are innumerable lost opportunities for UMA to offer intellectual and cultural enrichment to the region and state by not having a partner to broadcast events in the Jewett Hall Auditorium.  These lost opportunities if they were captured would also help us tell our story more clearly and powerfully to the public.  Among the lost opportunities are: two Jazz Weeks annually; concerts with guest artists; lectures; and even events like our awards assembly at the end of the year.  Potential opportunities are also going by the wayside with respect to how we could partner with state government in getting their issues out to the public.

Accordingly, the Provost will engage WPBN and Time Warner in discussions about developing the auditorium into a broadcast facility in FY '08.  Simultaneously, the Provost will engage state government leadership about the prospect of using the facility to help get their messages out to the public.  Part of this discussion will revolve around the idea of the "Maine Policy Forum," which is an idea about linking contemporary public issues into a 3 credit course.  The course would include a weekly broadcast of key leaders on all sides of the given issue defining the matter, and progressing weekly towards the potential solutions.
