
Objective 6.3.1 Strategies and Benchmarks
6.3.1 The University will work with employers in its service territory to identify and address the educational needs of their employees.
In the fall 2007, the President will convene a meeting of the BOV Committee on Economic Development and appropriate UMA employees. Among the UMA representation will be the Dean of the College of Mathematics and Professional Studies and the Business Programs' Coordinator. The charge to the group will be to identify methods and techniques to solicit from the businesses of the Central Maine area input on its educational and training needs. A report to the President will be due spring '08.
During summer '08, the President with counsel of the Provost, will review the Committee's recommendations and assign various duties to appropriate University personnel. It is anticipated these duties will include, but not be limited to such projects as mail questionnaires, focus group studies, and calls by UMA personnel to select and/or representative businesses and government agencies.
Data collection will begin and conclude during fall '08. The Provost and his designee(s) will summarize findings of the collected data in a report to the President during spring '09.
The report will be reviewed by the BOV and available to the entire University community. Comments will be solicited during fall '09. The Provost and his designee(s) will analyze the new information and amend the initial report to the President in early spring '09. The amended report will be reviewed by the BOV Committee on Economic Development and appropriate UMA employees to formulate priorities and specific implementation strategies by the start of school in fall '09.
The President with counsel from the Provost will initiate appropriate actions beginning in spring '10.
