UMA Certificate Requirements:
- Minimum 50% of the required courses taken through UMA
- Minimum 2.50 G.P.A. in the Certificate

Pre-candidacy phase (14-16 credits)
Pre-Candidacy Phase Requirements:
- Complete all pre-candidacy EDU courses with a grade of B- or better
- Complete all core and general education classes
- Grade of C or better in ENG 101
- Grade of C or better in mathematics (MAT 1xx)
- GPA requirement met: 2.5 overall; 2.75 in education courses
- Demonstrate proficiency on all key assessments

Student Teaching Phase (12 Credits)
Additional Requirements:
For full Maine state certification, students must also complete the following:
- A Baccalaureate Degree from a Regionally Accredited Institution (Student teaching is not required for Early Childhood teachers.)
- Complete any English course 3 CR
- Complete any Mathematics course 3 CR MAT 130 and/or MAT 131 recommended
- Complete any Science course 3 CR
- Complete any Social Studies course (anthropology, geography, history or political science) 3 CR
