Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) Induction Ceremony

Sigma’s mission is advancing world health and celebrating nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service.

In April of 2017 UMA became an associate member of the Omicron Xi at Large Chapter of Sigma joining with the University of Maine and Husson University’s Nursing Programs. We look forward to being involved with the chapter which focuses on enhancing scholarship in nursing through leadership and service.

In spring 2018 UMA nominated nursing students who met the eligibility for undergraduate students which includes:

In no particular order: Cynthia Kennard, Jennifer Cloukey, Karen Vanzura and Dr. Lynne King.

  • Have completed half of the nursing curriculum.
  • Achieve academic excellence. (At schools where a 4.0 grade-point average system is used, this equates to a 3.0 or higher.)
  • Rank in the upper 35th percentile of the graduating class.
  • Meet the expectation of academic integrity.

Twelve students were nominated by faculty for induction. At a lovely April 30th, 2018 induction ceremony three nominees: Cynthia Kennard, Jennifer Cloukey, Karen Vanzura as well as Dr. Lynne King Vice-President/Counselor UMA were in attendance.
