Student Services Coordinators at UMA Centers receive UMS Grant to continue “Sophomore Institute”

Congratulations to the professional Student Services Coordinators (SSC) at the UMA Centers on receiving a $10,000 Adult Learner Grant from the University of Maine System (UMS) for FY 22. This grant will provide funding to continue the highly successful “Sophomore Institute” designed and implemented by the SSC’s in 2019 and 2020.

Recognizing that the sophomore year can be a high risk time for adult students, the SSC’s developed a high contact seminar program that increased student participation and retention by setting goals, building personal relationships between faculty and students, and creating bonds among distance students through shared experiences. This model has the potential for replication at other locations within the UMS.
