The University of Maine at Augusta recently honored 90 students as Rising Scholars. These students were recognized as part of UMA’s 2018 Convocation ceremony held at the Augusta Civic Center on September 21. Begun in 2011, Rising Scholars are UMA students who are nominated by faculty and staff members for both academic achievement and promise.
William Sprague, a Mental Health & Human Services major at UMA Rumford was among those honored. “It is a great honor to be recognized as a Rising Scholar. I have been out of school for over 45 years and this is a new experience for me. I know there are other students with better grades, but as you can see if you are dedicated and you do the best you can it doesn’t go unnoticed.” Sprague continued, “Once I get my degree I hope to be able to go out and help people with their lives.”
